Read now the new Bonn Power Shift Monitor!

The Center for Global Studies regularly publishes the Bonn Power Shift Monitor (BPSM). It examines power shifts among the G20 states.

The latest publication of the BPSM is now available here. In it, data from the years 2016 to 2020 were analysed.

Overall, the United States continues to be the most powerful country of the G19 in 2020. However, the US remains on a relative power-decline. Its power score decreased in the years 2016 to 2020 from 17.65 to 17.19 but compared to the loss of power (-1.31) from 2011 to 2015, the downward curve has flattened. China continues to grow and tighten the gap to the US in our rankings. Its power score increases from 12.56 to 13.32. When compared to the previous analysis period the incline has slowed down significantly. Still, the gap between China and the US is narrowing slowly but steadily – China will have overtaken the US in the accumulated power score by 2035. Read more about that now here.
