Personalities in International Relations
- 05/06/2025

Is the individual just a drop on the crest of history’s wave? Or can perhaps a single personality itself make waves like a stone in calm waters? Dr. habil. Hendrik. W. Ohnesorge recently published an article in „INDES. Zeitschrift für Politik und Gesellschaft“ about the role of personalities in International Relations.
Under the title “Movens or foam on the wave”, Dr. Ohnesorge deals with the history of personal research. Situated between political science and historiography, the analysis of personalities could be described as one of the oldest genres in human writing. Since Herodotus and Thucydides, individuals and their place in history have exerted great fascination.
How can this approach be reconciled with other research traditions in political science? And what developments has it been exposed to? You can read about this and much more in the current issue of INDES.
