EmPOWER! Politics, Policy, and Personality

Our project on gender equality in IB research is going into its second round! As part of our research on power and global power shifts, the project EmPOWER! Politics, Policy, and Personality aims to increase the visibility of those who identify as female in academia.

Susan Strange Young Scholar Award

The Susan Strange Young Scholar Award is aimed at all female students who have submitted an excellent thesis with a research focus on international relations.

The topic of this year’s competition is: The Future of World Order(s) in Times of Unrest

Which factors lead to the stabilization or changes of global order(s)? In what ways have world orders changed in the past? And what is/will be the shape of global orders today and tomorrow? More than ever before, the established world order seems to be under attack. Be it the Covid-19 pandemic, aggressive political personalities, rising powers on the political scene, or the various international security crises of recent times. Revisionist tendencies are visible both within states and at the interstate level, with the Covid-19 pandemic proving to be a catalyst of these developments.

After our jury of experts will have selected the best among the submitted theses, we cordially invite you to a digital conference, during which you will have the opportunity to present your results both to an expert audience and to the public. The best entry will receive the Susan Strange Young Scholar Award. All winning papers will be published in an anthology.

Submission is open to all bachelor’s or master’s theses submitted at any institution of higher education in German or English. The thesis must have been submitted between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. The deadline for submission is December 15, 2021. Please send your thesis and all other required documents to empower@uni-bonn.de (contact: Dr. Hendrik W. Ohnesorge and Christiane Heidbrink M.A.).
